Stunning coastline, abundant wildlife and world class wineries. It’s not been an easy task, but we’ve managed to squeeze in the best attractions that Margaret River and the South-West has to offer.
Why you’ll love this trip
Day 1 : Margaret River
It’s an early departure (6.50am) from our meeting point at Barrack Street Jetty, Tourist Stop, Perth City. Heading South out of Perth along the Kwinana Freeway our first stop is at the fringing shores of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Join a boat cruise and enjoy the views around Penguin and Seal Island. It’s a wonderful opportunity to spot a variety of marine life; such as wild dolphins, sea lions and little penguins. Birdlife is also in abundance such as migratory birds, pelicans and birds of prey too. Our adventure continues to travel further along the coast of the Indian Ocean to the South-West corner of Western Australia, the Margaret River Region. En-route we stop for views across Geographe Bay and Busselton Jetty, the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s here that you can experience an optional craft beer tasting session if you choose. We’ll then continue to the heart of the Margaret River Region and visit a cellar door of one the region’s most well-known wineries. There’s more to explore, with a great photo opportunity at the natural rock formations of Canal Rocks followed by a visit to take in the views at the Margaret River Mouth. This special location is home to one of Australia’s greatest surfing breaks and the World Surfing League’s Margaret River Pro. We then travel onto Margaret River town centre to meander through some of the shops and local produce. We then travel back the way we came with the expanses of the picturesque farmlands, and an eye out for peeled for kangaroos! We arrive back to Perth around 7.30-8.00pm. Special Information The driving distance today is approximately 650 kilometres and will take around 7 hours of driving. Although it’s 270km from Perth to Margaret River, there will be multiple stops enroute, with 3-4 short walks included, taking no longer than 1 hour. The Busselton Jetty requires an entrance fee of $4, which is a 25-minute walk in each direction. The Shoalwater Islands Marine Park boat cruise is included in the price of the tour. If the boat cruise is cancelled due to hot or inclement weather, it’s difficult to organize a refund, so we will provide lunch.
