How long does the Sydney to Cairns route take?

Most people spend 2-6 weeks on it. The route covers around 2,900km of coastline, and there is more than enough along the way to fill every day of that. Our guided tours run from 14 to 28+ days. Coach passes let you set your own pace entirely. Sydney to Cairns is the classic full east coast experience - not the shortcut version. The real one.

What are the must-see stops between Sydney and Cairns?

Byron Bay (Australia's most easterly point, genuinely good surf). The Gold Coast. Brisbane. Noosa. Then K'gari - the world's largest sand island, with freshwater lakes sitting on top of sand dunes and 4WD tracks running straight along the beach. Then Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays, Mission Beach, and Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef is right there waiting for you at the end. It's a solid route.

Is Sydney a good place to start my east coast trip?

It's the most popular starting point for a reason. Most international flights land here, so the logistics usually sort themselves out. You get the full length of the route, and you finish in Cairns with the Great Barrier Reef as your last big stop. There are worse ways to end a trip.

Can I extend or customise my itinerary?

Yes. Extra days in Byron, a Reef liveaboard from Cairns, a detour to Uluru and the Red Centre. If you can picture it, we can probably build it. Chat to our team and we'll put something together.

Can I do this trip solo?

Yes. And honestly, solo is kind of the default mode on the east coast. Our small group tours give you built-in company from day one, plus a guide who handles all the logistics so you're not spending your trip stressing over buses and bookings. Coach passes work too - the backpacker trail is set up for making friends. You will not be lonely. (Unless you want to be, which we also fully support.)

What's the difference between a guided tour and a coach pass?

A guided tour: small group, dedicated guide, accommodation and activities all lined up. You show up, they handle it. A coach pass: you pick the pace, hop on and off when you feel like it, stay as long as you want somewhere. Same transport network, completely different energy. Neither is wrong - it just depends on whether you want freedom or someone else to carry the mental load.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. And not because we enjoy saying it. The east coast involves snorkelling, skydiving, 4WD driving on sand, sailing, and a lot of activities where things can and occasionally do go sideways. Medical costs in Australia are not a fun surprise. Most of our packages require insurance, and if you need help finding cover, our team can point you in the right direction.
