When is the best time to visit East Asia?

For Japan, March to April for cherry blossom season and October to November for autumn leaves are the two peak windows. Both are worth the crowds. Spring and autumn are also just genuinely great times to be there weather-wise. December to February works brilliantly if skiing in Niseko or Hakuba is on the list. Summer (June to August) is hot, humid, and busy but festival season makes it worthwhile.

How do I get around East Asia?

In Japan, the rail network is the answer to almost every transport question. The Shinkansen bullet train connects Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and beyond at speeds that make flying feel unnecessary. A Japan Rail Pass covers most of it for a flat fee and pays for itself quickly if you're moving around. Local metro systems in the major cities are excellent.
