Brisbane is a seriously underrated place to start an east coast trip. Queensland's capital has the weather, the food, the nightlife, and enough going on to fill a few days before you head north. And once you do head north, you're looking at one of the best routes in Australia.

Our east coast tours starting from Brisbane cover everything from independent coach passes to fully guided small group tours, built around different budgets and timelines. Whether you've got two weeks or two months, there's a package that fits.

What Does the Brisbane to Cairns Route Look Like?

Before you head north, spend a couple of days in Brisbane proper. South Bank has the museums, the galleries, and a man-made beach sitting in the middle of the city (yes, really). West End is where you eat. Fortitude Valley is where you go out. The locals call it BrisVegas, which tells you everything you need to know about the vibe.

From Brisbane, the route takes you up through 1770 and Agnes Water, two small coastal towns that are genuinely worth slowing down for, before hitting K'gari (Fraser Island). The world's largest sand island, freshwater lakes perched on sand dunes, 4WD beach driving, and some of the best camping on the east coast. It's a highlight of the trip for most people and it's only partway up the route.

After K'gari, Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are next. Sailing between 74 islands, Whitehaven Beach, sunsets on the water. Then Mission Beach for easy access to the outer Great Barrier Reef, before you finish in Cairns.
