Two countries. One of the best overland trips you can do anywhere. Vietnam and Cambodia together hit different to either one alone, and if you've got the time to combine them, you absolutely should.

Vietnam: the long one

Vietnam is longer than it looks on a map. Hanoi in the north and Saigon in the south are basically different countries in terms of vibe. Give it the time it deserves.

Hanoi is where most people start. The Old Quarter is 36 streets of controlled chaos, incredible food, and more motorbikes than you've ever seen in your life. Bun cha for breakfast. Egg coffee because you have to. Then north to Halong Bay, where around 1,600 limestone islands rise out of the water on an overnight boat cruise that genuinely looks exactly like the photos (this is rare, appreciate it).

Hoi An is the one people say they wish they'd stayed longer in. Always. A lantern-lit ancient town, tailor shops that'll make you clothes overnight, cooking classes, and a beach 4km away that nobody's fighting over. Then south to Saigon, which hits you like a wall of noise and energy and immediately makes sense.

Cambodia: more than just the temples (though the temples are extraordinary)

Angkor Wat is the obvious reason people come to Cambodia. It's bigger than you think, more atmospheric than the photos suggest, and genuinely worth more time than most people give it. Two full days minimum. Sunrise on your first morning is non-negotiable.

But Phnom Penh deserves a proper visit too. The history is confronting and important. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields are not easy, but they're the kind of thing that stays with you for good reason. And then the south coast around Kampot: colonial buildings, pepper farms, river sunsets, and crab on the beach for next to nothing. Cambodia is full of surprises.

Vietnam and Cambodia tours and packages

The overland route between them is well worn and very doable. A tour takes the logistics off your plate entirely and makes sure you're not missing the stuff that isn't obvious from a quick Google. We put together proper combined itineraries that give both countries what they deserve.

This combo connects naturally to Thailand as part of a longer South East Asia trip. A lot of people add Bali at the end. See everything at the Asia tours hub, grab a deal on the Asia deals page, or contact us to start planning.
