You wake up. The beach is one minute away. Your instructor is already in the water. This is the whole idea behind Spot X surf camp, and it works exactly as well as it sounds.
Spot X is run by Mojo Surf and sits at 46 Arrawarra Beach Road, Arrawarra NSW, about 30 minutes north of Coffs Harbour and between Sydney and Byron Bay. It's set inside a National Marine Park, which means the coastline is genuinely protected and genuinely beautiful. The kind of beach that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with cities.
What's included at Spot X
Daily surf lessons with fully qualified instructors (level one beginner and level two advanced coaching). They're in the water with you the whole time, not watching from the beach. Mojo also uses photo and video analysis to show you exactly what your surfing looks like, which is useful and occasionally humbling.
Multiple breaks at the camp suit every level from complete beginner to intermediate and advanced. Boards and wetsuits are included and matched to your size and ability. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, every day, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available (let them know when booking).
Accommodation is in 2-6 share dorm cabins or 4-share tipis, all bedding included. Some cabins have small en-suites, others have shared amenities close by. Twin and double upgrades are available on request, subject to availability.
After the surf
Beach volleyball, hammocks, a movie room, a camp shop, laundry, internet, and a sound system that goes harder than expected. The campfire nights are the thing most people talk about afterwards.
Packages run from 2 to 10 days. Longer packages include a night out in Byron Bay with the Mojo crew. If you're serious about progressing, the longer you stay the better.
