Perth
Day 1: Perth and Pinnacles
Set off to the local shops and stock up on food for our delicious home-cooked meals. We then head north with our first stop along the way for a quick lunch. Enjoy the impressive views along Indian Ocean drive and then explore the Pinnacles Desert. A short drive brings us to our picturesque beachside campsite where we kick back for the night. Watch the sunset with your new mates and enjoy a beer!
Day 2: Geraldton and the Pink Lake
Sleep off your hangover or have an early morning swim we hit the road around 9.30am. Before lunch, we take an optional boat tour of Jurien Bay Marine Park (seasonal) or checkout Geraldton foreshore. Then we head to the spectacular Pink Lake for some rad photo ops! The campsite tonight is at the scenic lucky bay, walk the sand dunes or swim as the sun goes down. There is plenty of space at the campsite so time to turn the music up and let your hair down for the night.
Day 3: Kalbarri National Park
Hit the road and see the Scenic Kalbarri cliffs before a quick swim and cold shower at the river mouth. Then explore the amazing Kalbarri National Park with a few hours of hiking to Nature’s Window and the Z Bend. In the late afternoon, we hit the road to our overnight stop by the river.
Day 4: Shark Bay
This Morning we drive into the World Heritage site of Shark Bay. Check out Shell Beach, relax and swim in the crystal clear water. After lunch, we drive into the town of Denham followed by a stop at the Lagoon for a game of ultimate frisbee or cricket. It’s now time for a bit of luxury as we set up camp at the Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort. After dinner and an amazing sunset, you can head down to the jetty and spot wildlife with your torch or kick back on the grass around the campsite.
Day 5: Monkey Mia, Dolphins & Carnarvon
Wake up and walk 50m down to the water’s edge. It’s time to meet the famous Monkey Mia Dolphins if you are lucky you will get to feed flipper his scaly breakfast! There is now a few free hours to explore swim or rent a kayak. We hit the road around lunchtime and travel to Carnarvon to resupply. The campsite is a short drive north of here where we will settle in for the night.
Day 6: Coral Bay Day 1
We roll into coral bay mid morning and set up camp. There are now essentially two free days to explore, Snorkel the amazing reef, (Optional Fishing charter, diving, whale shark tours) or just sit with your new friends on the beach and enjoy this special place. Usually, things will kickoff pretty early and by late afternoon everyone is ready to blow off some steam and party up! Truth or Dare anyone? Our campsite is 5 min walk from the beach and everything else in town. You will fall in love with this place the moment you arrive!
Day 7: Coral Bay Day 2
Extra day in Coral Bay! Today you can really see the reef at its finest, only meters from the beach are huge coral formations and large fish. If you are lucky you might swim alongside a turtle or friendly reef shark! (Optional Fishing charter, diving, Manta Ray Tours, whale shark tours)
Day 8: Exmouth Surfing & Water Sports
With the right weather conditions, we can hit the Exmouth town beach and enjoy some water sports. Take a jetski out and see dolphins and whales (in season) go tubing behind the jetskis for a wild adrenaline rush or just relax on the beach. In the afternoon we have the option to rent a surfboard or do a lesson ($25, $50) our campsite tonight can vary depending on what the group feels, in town or by the beach.
Day 9: Cape Range National park, Whale Sharks, Ningaloo Reef
Our lucky Whale shark/Humpback swimmers will be picked up from the campsite early morning. The rest of the group will travel to the Cape Range National Park and explore the many sites. The lighthouse at sunset really sets the scene for our last night together and if we are lucky we will see the Humpback Whales breaching on the Horizon! The last night at the campsite is a nice time to spend with your new mates, make plans to meet in future travels or wonder how you can find a way to come back!
Day 10: (Return) - Head towards Home
Pack Up and say goodbye to your friends. People who are continuing north can be dropped in Exmouth or coral bay as we drive south. A roadside camp will be home for us tonight.
Day 11: (Return) - Arrive Perth
Drive towards Perth with quick stops in Northampton and for lunch, we will arrive at Billabong Backpackers around 4-5pm.
Accommodation - Majority of accommodation is free camping with selected nights at a paid site or hostel. Check Itinerary for prices. Dorm upgrades are possible on nights spent at caravan parks.
Total cost for paid campsites and national park fees (if you choose to attend all national parks) =$96.50
Gear can be rented for the duration of the trip at the following rates:
2 man tent share ($10pp)
3 man Tent share ($10pp)
Air Mattress ($10pp)
Sleeping bag ($10pp)
Food - we communally cook together at an average cost of $5 a day.
National Park Fees - On days when we visit a national park, a $5.50 or ($12 Monkey Mia) fee to the park will need to be payed
